Carol of Lights is one of Texas Tech's most unique and treasured traditions. There is nothing like that moment when the campus is instantly illuminated by more than 25,000 red, white and orange lights.

The Texas Tech Alumni Association will host the fifth Pre-Lighting Festival December 5 prior to the Carol of Lights. The event, which will begin at 5 p.m., will take place at the Frazier Alumni Pavilion, located just southwest of Jones AT&T Stadium. All Texas Tech alumni, students and members of the community are welcome.

The Pre-Lighting Festival will allow attendees of the Carol of Lights to come early, get a good parking space and enjoy free snacks and warm beverages all while enjoying the sounds of Christmas music. Santa Claus will also be present for pictures and to hear Christmas wishes.

The Alumni Association encourages attendees to bring a new, unwrapped toy at a minimum of a $10 value to be donated to the Toys for Tots program.

The festival will also feature the raffle of a $1,000 scholarship donated by the Student Alumni Association Board of Directors. The recipient of the scholarship must be attending Texas Tech in the spring 2009 semester to receive the award. Raffle tickets for the scholarship may be purchased for $1 at the Merket Alumni Center located at 17th and University, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Students will be able to purchase tickets at the Pre-Lighting Festival as well.

All present will have a chance to win door prizes from local merchants.

For more information on the Carol of Lights Pre-Lighting Festival or raffle tickets, please contact Lauren Chasteen or call (806) 742.3641 ext. 232.
