"Texas Tech Day" Set for 2011

The Texas Tech Alumni Association has designated Feb. 1, 2011, as "Texas Tech Day" in the Texas State Capitol. Representatives from the entire Texas Tech System, along with alumni and students, will gather in Austin for this day-long celebration.

According to Jim Douglass, associate vice president of the Texas Tech Alumni Association, the purpose of this event is to bring attention to the need for adequate funding for higher education in the state of Texas. "Each session, we send a delegation of Red Raiders to Austin to remind the legislators of the importance of higher education to the future of our state," said Douglass. "Texas Tech System alumni from all over Texas are invited to join in this effort." The Texas Tech System includes Texas Tech University, Angelo State University and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center.

"We want all of the legislators, not just those representing West Texas, to realize that many of their constituents care about Texas Tech and the importance of higher education funding," Douglass said. "We will be joined by a large number of current students who share these same concerns. The day will include recognition of the delegation in both the Texas House and the Senate. The day also includes personal visits to every legislator's office allowing the Tech group to meet and visit with as many legislators and their staff members as possible."
