Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the Peggy and Bill Dean Expansion of Merket Alumni Center

Construction on the Merket Alumni Center is complete and a ribbon cutting ceremony will take place June 19.

Alumni Highlights

The Peggy and Bill Dean Expansion of Merket Alumni Center

The Merket Alumni Center expansion is complete, so that means it is time to cut the ribbon. The Texas Tech Alumni Association will hold a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony & Open House Saturday, June 19, 2010, 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m., with a brief ceremony at noon. Please visit www.TexasTechAlumni.org for more details.

The Merket Alumni Center houses the Texas Tech Alumni Association and is located at 17th & University.

The expansion project nearly doubled the Merket Alumni Center by adding 10,694 square feet. A new, second entrance into the facility opens into the Peggy and Bill Dean Grand Reception Hall. Three new banquet/meeting rooms were constructed on the west end of the building.

Other features in the addition include a new serving kitchen with storage; a new circulation, staging and planning office; a bride’s room and new restrooms. The kitchen was remodeled into an office suite for the association’s marketing department. Two memorial groves will be planted on the grounds, and a second courtyard is being built to the east, featuring an outdoor gazebo.

Texas Tech Alumni Association (TTAA) broke ground May 12, 2009 on the Peggy and Bill Dean Expansion to Merket Alumni Center. View construction photos here.

According to campaign fundraising chairperson Nelda Laney, the Building on Tradition capital drive that began last October has raised more than $3.1 million to date toward the $4 million project budget.

Joe D. McKay of JDMA, Inc. is the architect for the project, Lee Lewis Construction, Inc. is the general contractor, and Ogallala Construction Management is serving as project manager.

There are still numerous opportunities for you to support this project. Please visit www.MerketExpansion.com for more information.

If you need information on banquet space at the newly expanded Merket Alumni Center or Frazier Alumni Pavilion, then please call 806.742.0400 or e-mail Kym Ruiz.
