Spring 2011 Graduation Fair Announced

By Travis Cram

Texas Tech students will have the opportunity for one-stop Commencement shopping as the spring 2011 Graduation Fair begins March 1 at the Frazier Alumni Pavilion, located southwest of Jones AT&T Stadium. The graduation fair will run 9 a.m.-5 p.m each day, March 1-3.

The graduation fair is a combined effort to meet the needs of graduating seniors conveniently. Several departments will be on hand to provide information for students who are nearing the completion of their degrees.

Students who have completed a minimum of 75 credit hours are eligible to apply for the Official Texas Tech Class Ring. Official ring ceremonies for this spring will take place April 26 and 27 at the Merket Alumni Center. Texas Tech Chancellor Kent Hance will once again present the rings to the students.

Alumni Association representatives will address questions about alumni chapters and membership benefits. Career Services will be available to answer questions about securing employment, while graduate study information also will be provided for those considering higher education. Representatives from the Texas Tech Bookstore will be selling graduation caps and gowns. May graduates will also be able to purchase official graduation announcements, diploma frames and have their graduation portraits taken.

Since the Official Class Ring was unveiled in the spring of 1999, more than 13,500 students and alumni are now wearing the official ring. Upon graduation, ring recipients turn their rings with the Double T facing outward, signifying graduation from Texas Tech and the beginning of their careers.

Those able to wear the ring proudly state to others, "I am a person of honor, a Texas Tech graduate – a Red Raider for Life!" For the graduates and their peers, it holds a whole world of meaning.
