Texas Tech Days in Austin

By Travis Cram

More than 80 volunteers, Texas Tech faculty and students gathered in Austin on Feb. 1, for "Texas Tech Day" at the Texas State Capitol. The entire Texas Tech University System had a fantastic presence during the first legislative session of the year.

The theme for this year's event was "Welcome to the System," recognizing Texas Tech University, Angelo State University and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center.

Texas Tech Chancellor Kent Hance, Texas Tech President Guy Bailey and others were recognized on the House and Senate floors as representatives for the Texas Tech System. The faculty members, students and volunteers walked around the Capitol building and personally presented each state representative and senator with a unique gift for this year's day at the Capitol, welcoming them to the Texas Tech System.

A Raider Cabernet wine from Llano Estacado winery was just as unique inside the bottle as it was on the outside. Each bottle was personally addressed to the senator or representative with their name and the number of Texas Tech System members inside their district.

The wine was presented in a custom-made box designed with the help of the Price Group and contained a small handout of the unique facts about the Texas Tech System.
