Team USA Downs Italy 6-0 in Championship Game

Texas Tech Softball Head Coach Teresa Wilson continued her busy off-season in July as she took over head coaching duties for the USA Elite National team for the 2005 Intercontinental Cup in Madrid, Spain. Wilson guided Team USA to the tournaments championship by defeating Team Italy, 6-0 in the title game.

Wilson and the American squad compiled a 6-1 mark at the tournament, dropping only one contest to Chinese Taipei. Team USA bounced back from that setback to down Chinese Taipei, 4-0, to advance to the championship contest.

In the title game, the Americans were able to put up three runs in the bottom of the third inning to take control of the contest. USA pitchers Jennie Ritter and Dana Serensen limited Team Italy to only five hits on the day while combining for seven strikeouts. Right fielder Marissa Nichols powered the American offense as she belted a home run and drove in a pair of runs in a 2-for-2 performance at the plate.
