Rawls College of Business Raising Funds for New Building

With Texas Tech University emerging as a powerhouse in producing future business leaders, the Rawls College of Business is looking to expand its boundaries.

College officials are busy raising the $25 million in private funds necessary to build a new state-of-the-art facility, to be located at the corner of 19th Street and University Avenue. Texas Tech University will provide $25 million in matching funds for the new building. To date, the college has raised $12.5 million.

Allen T. McInnes, dean of the Rawls College of Business, says the design and location of the new structure will allow greater interaction between faculty, students, members of the local business community and recruiters from companies across the state.

The new building will combine state-of-the-art technology with the elegance of the Spanish Mediterranean architecture for which Texas Tech is known, McInnes says. This facility will provide area businessmen and women a venue to interact with Rawls students. The building will be visible to the Lubbock community and will stand as an icon that typifies the university.

Don Clancy, associate dean of the college, says the new building design will have several features that will make it more useful than the current facility.

The building would place faculty offices in locations that are quiet but more accessible to students. The new configuration would also feature study rooms adjacent to classrooms for the students' convenience.

Making this dream a reality will require generous support from alumni, business leaders and friends of the Rawls College of Business and Texas Tech, Clancy says. Graduates will look at the new building and be proud to say that the Rawls College of Business is where they studied, and they can be confident that the quality of future students will be exceptional.
