Brown Endowed Scholarship Established

The Texas Tech Department of Athletics has announced the creation of the Dave Brown Endowed Scholarship, which will fund the cornerback position for the Red Raider football team. The scholarship was created to honor the memory of former assistant football coach Dave Brown, who passed away Jan. 10.

“Dave Brown was an integral part of our family,” Tech head coach Mike Leach said. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife Rhonda, and sons, Aaron and Sterling. In honor of his memory, Texas Tech Football, the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, and the Red Raider Club will establish the Dave Brown Endowed Scholarship, funding the cornerback position.”

To permanently establish the endowment, $200,000 will need to be raised to fund the scholarship. Donations will be accepted by the Red Raider Club at Box 54055, Lubbock, TX  79409 or by phone at (806) 742-1196.

A five-year veteran on the Red Raider coaching staff, Brown coached the cornerbacks since his arrival in 2001. He initially retired from coaching in 1998 after a seven-year run as cornerbacks coach for the Seattle Seahawks, but returned to the sideline at Texas Tech three seasons later for his only collegiate position.

Brown was active in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and held weekly bible studies for Texas Tech student-athletes. His faith in God and his leadership made him one of the most admired individuals on the Texas Tech campus.
