Cory Chandler

Senior Staff Writer

Cory Chandler

Cory Chandler’s most consuming hobby – writing aside – is art. He regularly takes over the kitchen he shares with his wife of two years to produce intricate ink and pen drawings. Cory enjoys playing around with colors and experimenting with different styles, producing inventive, expressive pieces that capture emotions. The office proudly displays some of his drawings on different Web sites and magazines. Cory describes himself as “fairly outgoing and enthusiastic,” though he admits that his other hobbies are the usual reading and writing.

After graduating with a bachelor's degree in journalism from Texas Tech, Cory spent two years covering education and politics for the Midland Reporter-Telegram before returning to Lubbock to cover wide-ranging beats including city hall, politics, agriculture and Texas Tech for the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal. While working at the Reporter-Telegram, he won Hearst’s 2004 Eagle Award, given to 20 Hearst Newspapers employees nationwide. Cory's story, Midland Son Dies in Iraq, won the 2004 Texas Associated Press Managing Editor’s Award for deadline writing.

His favorite cereal is Fruity Pebbles.

Cory covers the College of Agriculture, College of Architecture, College of Engineering and College of Human Sciences. Cory is the staff liason and manager for the new contract with iTunes.
