Operations Division Wins Prestigious National Grounds Maintenance Award

The university is honored for its landscaping efforts.

Texas Tech University’s Operations Division recently received an award from the Professional Grounds Management Society (PGMS) for its efforts in maintaining the university’s landscaping. Recognized at the 2014 Green Star Awards, Texas Tech was awarded for its well-maintained turf and great use of grasses where less water is required for the up-keep.

“Operations Division Grounds Maintenance is honored to have won such a prestigious award, such as the Green Star,” said Mike Quartaro, director of Grounds Maintenance. “The grounds team puts in unlimited time and effort to make the Texas Tech campus an aesthetically pleasing and safe environment for students, faculty, staff and the Lubbock community.”

The award is a national recognition where universities are judged based on turf, landscape, challenges, budget, safety and sustainable practices. Competing against 17 other universities, Texas Tech scored highest on landscaping and was commended for the university’s sustainability and great use of maintenance.
