Nutritional Sciences Professor Joins Advisory International Advisory Board, Receives Distinguished Public Service Award
Dr. Martin Binks has joined the Scientific Advisory Board at The International Food Information Council a non profit whose mission is to effectively communicate science-based information on food safety and nutrition to health and nutrition professionals, educators, government officials, journalists, and others providing information to consumers.
As a representative of the Obesity Care Continuum (OCC), which is comprised of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, The Obesity Society, the Obesity Action Coalition, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, and the American Society of Bariatric Physicians. Binks has initiated a conversation with a representative of the Texas Medical Association to gain support for the efforts of the obesity community in improving access to evidence-based treatment.
Binks also received the Atkinson-Stern Award for Distinguished Public Service. This award recognizes an individual or organization whose work has significantly improved the lives of those affected by obesity, whether through research, public policy, patient care, or other means.
