The Beginning of Texas Tech University-Costa Rica

Aiming to make high-quality, U.S. education available locally, in 2014, Promérica Group partnered with Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, a powerhouse in STEM education and research. Soon, the construction of a state-of-the-art campus began in Avenida Escazú, a mixed-use complex in the western suburbs of San José. In May 2018, the Texas Tech-Costa Rica (TTU-CR) campus was inaugurated. In the fall of that year, TTU-CR welcomed its first students.

With the mission of bringing progress and change through education, Texas Tech University and Promérica Group are proud to have launched Costa Rica's first U.S. degree-granting institution in the country.

Avenida Escazú

Texas Tech University-Costa Rica benefits from its location in Avenida Escazú, a vibrant development in the country's capital. Avenida Escazú is home to some of the best restaurants, services, and entertainment in the San José metropolitan area, and Red Raiders get discounts in many of these establishments. Students also enjoy the nearby parks, bike lanes, exciting events, and more. Avenida Escazú is a place where people come together, and where students feel a sense of belonging as part of the Red Raider family.

Costa Rica

Avenida Escazú reflects Costa Rica's strong, stable, and growing economy. Built on a foundation of agriculture, Costa Rica's economy now relies on a strong tourism sector and manufacturing and technology companies, including large multinationals with local operations.
Costa Rica is known for its biodiversity, environmental sustainability, stable democracy, and safety. In addition, many Costa Ricans speak both English and Spanish. Together with free trade zones, these factors have made San Jose and its surroundings a hub for Latin American foreign direct investment. Studying a STEM or business field in Costa Rica creates ideal possibilities for students poised to become leaders in what is possibly the earth's most important century.
