Omicron Delta Kappa Faculty Recognition Award

The founders of Omicron Delta Kappa formulated the idea that leadership of exceptional quality and versatility in college should be recognized, that representatives in all phases of college life should cooperate in worthwhile endeavors, and that outstanding students, faculty, and administrators should meet on a basis of mutual interest, understanding, and helpfulness. Omicron Delta Kappa was the first college honor society of a national scope to give recognition and honor for meritorious leadership and service in extracurricular activities and to encourage development of general campus citizenship.

The Corporation for National and Community Service recognized Tedeschi and her class for the second year in a row for their service in the community. The Honor Roll's Presidential Award, given each year to only a handful of institutions, is the highest federal recognition a college or university can receive for its commitment to volunteering, service-learning, and civic engagement. The organization praised this project, which involved Tedeschi and her students who volunteered countless hours at the Lubbock Animal Shelter, PETA, IDA, and the SPCA. They designed and prepared a quality public service campaign that spoke out about animal abuse and the need for an updated shelter. The class continues to design with high praise, material for many other non-profit organizations. All of this demonstrates the far-reaching impact that Tedeschi has had.

President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll

Carla Tedeschi, associate professor of communication design, is one of four TTU professors who received the prestigious honor of being named to the 2008 President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll by the Corporation for National and Community Service on February 9th at the 91st Annual Meeting of the American Council on Education in Washington, D.C.

The President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll, launched in 2006, recognizes colleges and universities nationwide that support innovative and effective community service and service-learning programs. The Honor Roll's Presidential Award, given each year to only a handful of institutions, is the highest federal recognition a college or university can receive for its commitment to volunteering, service-learning, and civic engagement. We are very proud of Professor Tedeschi's accomplishment.
