Graduate Degrees
The College of Visual and Performing Arts offers seven graduate degree programs in its units of Art, Music, and Theatre & Dance.
The Doctor of Philosophy in Fine Arts (Ph.D.) constitutes a unique program with fields of specialization in Art, Music, or Theatre Arts:
- The field of specialization in Art provides a flexible course of study titled Critical Studies and Artistic Practice;
- The field of specialization in Music provides emphases in any one area of Composition, Education, Performance, Theory, Conducting, History & Literature, Pedagogy, or Administration;
- The field of specialization in Theatre Arts requires two concentrations from the areas of Acting/Directing, Arts Administration, Design, History/Theory/Criticism, and Playwriting.

The Doctor of Musical Arts (D.M.A.), is a discipline-based degree program that offers fields of specialization in Composition, Conducting, Performance, or Piano Pedagogy.
Discipline-based programs at the master’s level comprise the Master of Arts (M.A.) in Theatre Arts, the Master of Art Education (M.A.E.); and the Master of Music Education (M.M.E.).
The Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.) offers fields of specialization in Art or in Theatre Arts.
The Master of Music (M.M.) is available with field of specialization in Composition, Conducting, Musicology, Performance, Pedagogy, or Theory.
