Bachelor of Science in Multidisciplinary Studies - Teacher Education Program
A desperate need exists for teachers in the high-needs fields of bilingual education, English as a second language and special education. Become a part of the solution. The Texas Tech Teacher Education Program will teach you how to make a difference in the lives of high-needs students in Texas.
This program is a partnership between Dallas County Community College District and Texas Tech University's College of Education. Students enroll in a community college, successfully complete the lower division coursework required for an Associate of Arts in Teaching and then transfer to Texas Tech University to complete upper division courses and student teaching requirements. Students will be required to attend face-to-face meetings in the Dallas area. Due to the required face-to-face meetings, only applicants residing in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area will be considered for admission into the program. Upon successful completion of the degree requirements and passing scores on state certification exams, graduates will be certified as elementary teachers with a supplemental certificate in Bilingual or ESL Education in grades EC-6.
Program Overview
Texas Tech University’s College of Education Teacher Education Program in Early-Childhood to 6th Grade (EC-6) elementary certification consists of 129-132 credit hours of undergraduate courses with a specialization in Bilingual Education or English as a Second Language (ESL).
- 123-132 credit hours
- Students will earn 66 credit hours at the community college level before entrance into the Teacher Education Program to complete the remaining 57-66 credit hours of coursework and student teaching requirements.
- Although most upper-division coursework is completed online, students are required to attend some face-to-face meetings in the Dallas area, so only applicants who reside in or near the Dallas area will be considered for the program. Some courses may require sessions delivered via Interactive Video Conferencing (IVC) and field-experience activities.
- Texas Tech has a lower-division articulation agreement with Dallas County Community College District, but credits and courses from other institutions will be considered for transfer during the admissions process.
