Texas Tech University provides the required coursework online for the Generic Special Education Graduate Certification Preparation Program. The degree plan includes all curriculum required for the Texas State Board of Education Certification Deaf and Hard of Hearing EC-12 Teaching Certificate. Certification also requires a passing score on the TExES examination and a Masters Degree. This program is available both as a stand-alone certificate or an area of emphasis with the Masters of Education in Special Education.

- Most courses are offered online; however, some courses may require the use of Interactive Video Conferencing (IVC).

- Completion time varies. Students may take up to three classes each semester and two each summer session, making completion time vary by individual.
- Semester-based courses align with the Academic Calendar of Texas Tech University. New students may enroll at the beginning of any one of the four semesters throughout the year.

- Apply as a (GCRT) student if you plan to pursue only the Generic Special Education Certification Preparation Program.
- Apply as a master's student if you plan to pursue the Master of Education in Special Education, emphasis in Generic Special Education.
- Be sure to select the degree program listing that correctly corresponds with the location from which you plan to pursue the program.
- Complete additional admissions requirements as outlined by the Texas Tech University Graduate School.
- The application fee is $100 for U.S. residents and $100 for international applicants.
- Students who plan to pursue only the Generic Special Education Certification Preparation program and do not plan to earn a master's degree do not need to submit Graduate Records Exam (GRE) scores to the University.
- Students who plan to pursue a Master of Education in Special Education with any area of emphasis, including Generic Special Education, must submit Graduate Records Exam scores to the Graduate School. Scores must be less than five years old at the time of application.
- Applicants must have official transcripts from all colleges and universities previously attended sent to Texas Tech University Graduate School.
- International students must also submit a Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score to the Graduate School.
- The admissions process is viewed holistically by the College of Education and the Graduate School, so there are no stated minimum GRE or GPA requirements. Learn more.

- Apply for financial aid and/or scholarships and College of Education Graduate Scholarships.
- Financial aid is distributed based on full-time enrollment and several other eligibility requirements. Your enrolled hours as of the 12th day of class in the fall and spring semesters determines your enrollment status for the semester, and financial aid is disbursed accordingly. If you receive notification of rejection, you may contact the Associate Dean of Graduate Education and Research, 806.742.1998, ext. 436, for advisement regarding the admissions appeals process.

Interested in taking only one or two courses? Use Texas Tech University's Graduate Temporary Status to apply and take as many as 12 credit hours without completing the application process to a degree program.
