Financial Assistance
For information on financial aid opportunities, visit the Office of Financial Aid.
There is a new federally-funded TEACH (Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education) Grant Program for students who intend to teach in schools that serve stduents from low-income families for at least four years and are seeking certification in high-need teaching fields. Teacher candidates in high needs areas (Bilingual and ESL, Foreign Language, Mathematics, Reading Specialist, Science, and Special Education) with a cumulative GPA of 3.25 may be eligible for grants up to $4000/year. This program is administered through the TTU Financial Aid office. More information is available online.
A consortium agreement will allow you to use your financial aid at both your local community college and Texas Tech
University concurrently. For information and assistance with establishing a consortium agreement, contact Yvonne
Harwood in Office Of Financial Aid.
Q: What are some of the financial resources available?
A: Three resources include the Veteran Benefits, the Loan Forgiveness Program, and Teach for Texas Loan Repayment Assistance Program.
Veteran Benefits
Veterans who have remaining GI Bill Education Benefits are entitled to a reimbursement of their testing fees when they have completed teacher certification examinations (ExCET or TExES). If this applies to you, you may want to find out more information by calling the Texas Troops to Teachers Office at 1-800-810-5484.
Loan Forgiveness
Certain teachers who have outstanding Federal Stafford, Perkins, or Consolidation Loans may be eligible to have up to $5,000 of their loans forgiven (in other words, you won't have to repay the amount). To qualify for teacher loan forgiveness provisions, certain criteria must be met. More information is available online.
Teach for Texas
Teachers in high needs areas may apply for an annual repayment of loans (up to $5000/year for 5 years or $20,000 maximum). More information on this program is available online.
TEACH (Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education)
Teacher candidates (undergraduate and PostBac) in high needs areas (Bilingual and ESL, Foreign Language, Mathematics, Reading Specialist, Science, and Special Education) with a cumulative GPA of 3.25 may be eligible for grants up to $4000/year. This program is administered through the TTU Financial Aid Office. More information is available online.
Educational Aide Exemption Waiver
To address its growing need for more qualified teachers, the State of Texas created a program that covers tuition and some fees for education aides who enroll in college to become certified Texas teachers. The exemption may only be used at public colleges or universities in Texas, including Texas Tech University and with our pathway partners (Central Texas College, Austin Community College and Howard College).
This program is administered by College for All Texans.
