Meet New People Campaign
My name is Oscar Sandate. I am currently a Pre-Med student from El Paso, Texas. I am a member of the Pioneers in Education: Generations Achieving Scholarships and Unprecedented Success Program, also known as the PEGASUS Program. This is a program for First Generation College (FGC) Students, it assists these students who are first in their families to attend college with their transition from high school to college and offers them help in many different ways. I originally joined this program because I could connect with other students who were in the same position as me and shared similarities, we were all new to a college setting and having no one in our family to guide us we had no idea as to what we might expect. PEGASUS greatly assisted me during my time as a freshman and continues to do so now.
My biggest advice to incoming freshman or to any college student is to just get out there and try new things. Getting involved is the best way to make sure you feel like a part of this great University. Texas Tech offers many resources and has many great organizations that work at assisting students in any way possible. Joining these organizations and using these resources helps us achieve success both academically and socially.
