Film Screenings

Cross-Cultural Film Series

The Cross-Cultural Film Series is a program established by the Cross-Cultural Academic Advancement Center to exhibit examples of diversity, inclusion, and culturalism in current award-winning films. This series will feature contemporary films that focus on issues of diversity and themes of cultural significance. Students will gain the opportunity to assess current progressive films that will expand their knowledge on diversity, multiculturalism, social justice, and inclusive excellence. All film screenings are free and open to the public.

Selma (2014)

Selma is a 2014 historical film drama directed by Ava DuVernay and written by Paul Webb. Based on the 1965 Selma to Montgomery voting rights marches led by James Bevel Hosea Williams, Martin Luther King, Jr. and John Lewis.

Creed (2015)

Creed is a 2015 American sports drama film, directed and written by Ryan Coogler. A spin-off and sequel to the Rocky film series, stars Michael B. Jordan as Adonis Johnson Creed, Apollo Creed's son, with Sylvester Stallone reprising the role of Rocky Balboa.

Loving (2016)

Loving is a 2016 historical drama film written and directed by Jeff Nichols. It features Joel Edgerton and Ruth Negga as Richard and Mildred Loving, the plaintiffs in the 1967 U.S. Supreme Court decision Loving v. Virginia, which invalidated state laws prohibiting interracial marriage.

Lion (2016)

Lion is a 2016 Australian-American-British drama film directed by Garth Davis and written by Luke Davies, based on a non-fiction story about a boy who was lost from his family at age five. After being adopted by an Australian family, later in life, the boy decides to search for his long-lost family using Google Earth. The film stars Dev Patel, Rooney Mara, David Wenham, and Nicole Kidman.
