The mission of the Texas Tech Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is to provide programs that develop the character and integrity of student-athletes in their academic, athletic and personal quest for excellence. To be consistent with the principles of Texas Tech University, the department embraces the opportunities to enhance student-athlete welfare and promote diversity within student-athletes and staff with fair and equitable treatment for all.

Texas Tech University will be a leader in intercollegiate athletics. The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics aspires to be nationally recognized for excellence and performance in athletic competition, academic excellence and personal development of our student-athletes.

One of the Intercollegiate Athletics’ goals is to promote diversity and equity among staff and student-athletes. This is done by increasing student-athletes involvement in the University, maintaining a diverse department population and actively pursuing gender equity.

Athletics is actively engaging in recruiting, supporting, and retaining excellent and diverse coaches and staff.

Percentage wise there are more minority students in the Texas Tech Athletics Department than in any other segment of the university.

Athletics will establish relationships with minority organizations on campus and in the community to further better understand the needs and issues of minorities relative to Texas Tech Athletics and student-athletes.

A member of the Big 12 Conference, Red Raider athletics is a source of great pride and tradition. Texas Tech hosts 24 club sports teams, including baseball, football, softball, cross-country and track, men’s and women’s basketball, tennis and golf and women’s soccer and volleyball.

The Marsha Sharp Center for Student Athletes supports the academic achievement and success of more than 500 Texas Tech student athletes.

The Athletics Department’s Diversity Committee addresses personnel and hiring issues of the department and establishes relationships with minority organizations to further understand minority needs relative to student athletics.
