Amy Murphy

Associate Dean of Students / Director of Center for Campus Life

In her role as Associate Dean of Students / Managing Director of the Center for Campus Life, Amy Murphy provides oversight to the following areas:

  • First Year Raider Experience
  • Red Raider Orientation
  • Transfer Connection
  • Greek Life
  • Off Campus & Sophomore Initiatives
  • Spirit Activities
  • Assessment Response Team & Crisis Intervention

In addition, Amy is a liaison for student services to the Texas Tech off-campus sites and study abroad programs. She is also available to assist students and families in resolving problems and issues impeding retention and student success at the institution.

With more than 10 years of experience in Student Affairs, Amy has enjoyed various positions within the Center for Campus Life and previous experiences at Texas Tech in Residence Life and at Texas Christian University in the Office of Admissions. Her educational background includes a M.Ed. in Higher Education/Student Affairs, a B.A. in Public Relations, and she is currently completing her Ph.D. in Higher Education at Texas Tech University.

Amy spends her time volunteering with the Junior League of Lubbock and enjoys professional associations with the American Association of University Women, Lubbock Chamber of Commerce, and Texas Association of College and University Student Personnel Administrators.

 

Tara Miller

Assistant Dean of Students / Senior Director of Center for Campus Life

As Assistant Dean of Students / Senior Director of the Center for Campus Life, Tara Miller oversees the transition and retention program areas:

  • Red Raider Orientation
  • First Year Raider Experience
  • Sophomore Year Experience
  • Transfer Connection
  • Raiders Off Campus Student Services
  • Student Employment
  • Assessment Response Team & Crisis Intervention

Tara's educational background includes a M.A. in English from Angelo State University and, she recently completed in 2006, an Ed.D. in Higher Education / Student Affairs from Texas Tech University. In 2001, Tara began her career in Student Affairs at Texas Tech University in the Office of Student Activities, working with student organizations, homecoming, and leadership programming. In 2003, Tara moved to the Center for Campus Life and began working with the transition program, the First Year Raider Experience and, eventually, the Transfer Connection. By, 2008, the Center for Campus Life added new program areas to focus on the retention of sophomore or second year students and students that have moved off campus. Now, the primary focus of the transition and retention area is Red Raider Orientation, a program designed to not only acquaint new students with university resources, including academic advising and registration, but also help connect new students to the university and Lubbock communities.

Tara spends her time with family and traveling as much as possible, whether to Dallas to catch a hockey game or to San Antonio for a shopping trip.
