TTU Hurricane Harvey Relief Efforts

In addition, the following on-campus resources are available to assist students in need:

Academics: college academic advisor, faculty member, Department Chair, Associate Dean of the College

Academic Advisors ONLY: In an effort to identify those students who may have been affected, Student Success & Retention has created a temporary category in Strive.TTU.edu.   For more information on how to use this feature to identify students affected by Hurricane Harvey, please contact the Office of Student Success and Retention.

Counseling: for any student seeking individual or group crisis counseling, the Student Counseling Center is available Monday - Friday; 8:00am-5:00pm and by calling (806) 742-3674. Walk-in hours area available Monday - Friday; 12:30pm-3:30 pm. 24-hr mental health crisis support is  available by calling (806) 742-5555.

Office of the Dean of Students: staff in the Office of the Dean of Students are available to assist any student experiencing distress or in need of assistance. A Dean of Students staff member is available by calling (806) 742-2984.

Food Insecurity: Food is available for students  who may not have regular access to sufficient food. Food options are available through the TTU Graduate School, (806) 742-2787, and through the Center for Campus Life, (806) 742-5433.

Admissions- New Freshman and Transfer Students:

All reasonable accommodations and support will be provided for new freshman and transfer students who are unable to attend classes due to Hurricane Harvey. If necessary, the Office of Undergraduate Admissions will defer admission to the spring 2018 semester. Students should submit this request by calling 806-742-1480 or email admissions@ttu.edu .

Online/Distance Student Support

Students needing to access Blackboard may consider, the Blackboard mobile app. This app is free and allows the students to post a discussion, reply to discussion posts, view or print documents, view grades, take exams (although taking exams on a mobile device is not recommended), submit assignments, send email/course messages, view due dates, access Collaborate sessions. The app links to Dropbox, OneDrive and Google Drive.

Student Financial Assistance

Raider Relief Emergency Payment Plan:

The Student Business Service office of Texas Tech University understands that the impact of Hurricane Harvey, the extensive flooding aftermath and related recovery deployments and assistance may impact your family financially for some time.  For anyone impacted financially by the disaster, we are offering the Raider Relief Emergency Payment Plan.  Details of the plan include:

  • No enrollment fee; no interest
  • Deferred Payment Due date of November 25, 2017, for all charges
    • Late fees and holds may be applied after this date but if you are continuing to experience significant financial hardships, please contact us for assistance.
  • Students must be administratively enrolled by contacting our office at the numbers below.
    • If you are already enrolled in a fall payment plan, our agents can move your plan election to this plan.
    • If you are not already enrolled in a fall payment plan, the agent will be able to take your information to enroll you in this plan.

Book Loans:

Book loans are currently available to all students and for those with an immediate need for funds, this is a no-fee, no-interest loan of up to $500.  The due date to repay this loan is September 25th; however, if you are continuing to suffer a financial loss due to Hurricane Harvey, please contact us at the numbers below for an extension of repayment.  You may apply for the loan at sbsbookloans.ttu.edu.  If you have My Direct Deposit (MDD) established, you should have access to the loan funds within 24 - 48 hours.  If you do not have MDD established, we highly encourage you to do so via your Raiderlink portal.  We do not allow checks to be picked up in our office so all checks will be mailed via USPS to the local address on file for the student.

 

Student Financial Aid & Scholarships:

The Office of Student Financial Aid & Scholarships is available to assist students affected by Hurricane Harvey.

Student Withdrawals: Please contact Student Financial Aid & Scholarships staff if you received student financial aid and withdrew from Texas Tech University.   Our staff can ensure the student's financial aid and scholarships are adjusted based on individual circumstances.

Professional Judgment: The financial aid office is authorized to use professional judgment in order to more accurately reflect the financial needs of students and families affected by a disaster.
