Gregory G. Elkins

Dean of Students

Dr. Elkins has served in various leadership and administrative roles at Texas Tech since his arrival in January 1996, advancing from assistant dean of students, associate dean of students, director of the center of campus life, interim dean of students, to his current position as dean of students.  As Dean of Students Elkins leads an effort focused on non-academic matters affecting student life, student success, and student learning.  As a senior student affairs officer of the Division of Student Affairs, he provides visionary leadership and has direct oversight of six units of the Division: Center for Campus Life, Student Judicial Programs, Student Legal Services, Student Diversity Relations, Student Union and Activities, and Parent and Family Relations.

He, too, serves as a liaison to both internal and external constituents in building collaborative relationships and partnerships on behalf of the Division and University.  He leads the Division's effort for emergency or tragic situations and crisis intervention, serves as a primary referral agent for general student problems and/or concerns, serves as principle investigator of student grievances, and Chair the division-wide Assessment and Response Team (ART).  As dean, he is immensely involved with student development and retention activities of the Division and chairs the university-wide Student Life Council.  Dr. Elkins also serves as an adjunct graduate faculty member in the Texas Tech Graduate School and College of Education.

Elkins earned his Doctorate of Education in Higher Education Administration (2006) from Texas Tech University.  He earned both his Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Finance and Business Law (1987) and Master of Arts degree in Counseling-Higher Education Student Personnel (1990) from Marshal University, Huntington, WV.
