Course Objectives: This course is designed for graduate students and will cover major aspects
related with energy devices, in particular, solid state energy devices. Format includes lectures,
reference search work, and students’ presentations. Topics include solid state devices for energy
generation, storage, and transportation.
Part I: Solar Cells
• Si solar cells (Crystalline Si, Thin film, Amorphous Si)
• Compound semiconductor solar cells
• Concentrated solar cells
• Solar cells on flexible substrates
• Dye-sensitized solar cells
• Organic solar cells
• Nanostructure solar cells
Part II: Solid state energy devices beyond solar cells
•Solid-state lighting for energy savings
•Thermoelectric devices
•Betavoltaics
•Fuel cells
•Hydrogen generation and storage
