The mission of the Applied Vision Laboratory (AVL) is to conceive, design, and implement computer vision systems with applications in medicine and industry. Such systems are generally composed of state-of-the-art software and hardware modules that aim to automate manual tasks in which visual information processing and interpretation are deemed crucial. The centerpiece of our efforts at AVL is conducting applied research in such areas as interactive computer vision; image segmentation via deformable models; 2-D and 3-D shape analysis; content-based image compression; texture modeling and characterization; and feature extraction, analysis, and classification.
