Alfredo Benavides, Ph.D.
Alfredo Benavides is Professor of Bilingual Education in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at Texas Tech University. He has been in the field of bilingual education for over forty years having also held joint administrative and faculty appointments at the University of Iowa and Arizona State University.
He received his Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from Michigan State University. He served as Editor of the Bilingual Research Journal from 1997 to 2006 and is a member of the Bilingual Research Journal Editorial Board as well as serving on the Editorial Board of the Bilingual Review/Revista Bilingüe. He has also performed editorial work for the National Forum of Multicultural Issues Journal, the International Migration Review, the Journal of Research in Science Teaching, Longman Publishers, and Harper and Row Publishers.
He was honored as the recipient of the 2007-2008 Outstanding Researcher Award in the
College of Education at Texas Tech University and was also honored with the AERA Bilingual
Education Research SIG Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013. He joined the Texas Tech
University faculty in 2002.
