Cynthia R. Nelson is an instructor of science education in the Teacher Education Program at Texas Tech University. Her, more than twenty years, of classroom experience, include teaching in both elementary and middle school classrooms. The focus of her teaching has been science education. She has overseen the writing and execution of curriculum, designed and implemented after-school science programs, and actively pursued attitudes and teaching practices that empower students to be lifelong learners. Opportunities to travel with students to Costa Rica, Ecuador, The Galapagos Islands, Space Camp in Alabama, Johnson Space Center in Texas, and Kennedy Space Center in Florida, have allowed her to extend classroom content and processes into real world applications. As a teacher educator, she strives to equip future science teachers with the attitudes and teaching practices they will need in working with their students.
