Rosa Santiago, M.A.
Rosa Santiago is the current DFW Tech Teach Site Coordinator and the faculty member of the School of Education who initiated this program in Fort Worth, Texas in 2012. Originally from the strikingly beautiful island of Puerto Rico, Rosa moved to Texas over 25 years ago to complete her career in education becoming a bilingual teacher.
During the initial portion of her career in the field of education, she was devoted to work as a bilingual teacher in grades: K-5 in various DFW school districts. Rosa discovered her true passion for teaching when she had the opportunity to be trained as a Reading Recovery and Descubriendo La Lectura teacher.
After receiving her master’s degree in reading, she became a Literacy Coach and was responsible for developing a district wide reading program that addressed students’ literacy development needs. In this job she modeled effective lessons, assisted with ELLs instructional goals, and worked with students in the mainstream classroom who suffer from dyslexia.
As a Site Coordinator for Texas Tech University, she is dedicated to the teacher preparation program, playing a meaningful role in 4 strategic capacities, including: As an administrator, she in charge of implementing the teacher preparation program with the partner school district. As an instructor, she is in charge of delivering course topics in compliance with faculty responsibilities related to each course. As a supervisor, she oversees the progress of TechTeach teacher candidates and conducts their performance evaluations. As a professional development facilitator, she conducts all workshops and training sessions for teacher mentors and local course participants.
She enjoys spending time with friends and family and helping as a volunteer with the Puerto Rican Association and other community-based organizations.
