2. Verify You Meet Requirements

Minimum GPA Requirement = 2.75

You must have a bachelor's degree from a regionally‐accredited institution of higher learning.

Applicants to the Strong Teachers Day One Program must meet the following standards per TEA rule and TTU policy:

  • Hold a bachelor's degree from a regionally-accredited institution of higher education.(TAC 227.10)(2)
  • Demonstrate proficiency in reading and writing and math. (TAC 227.10.6)
  • Overall GPA must be 2.75 or above (TAC 227.10.3A)
  • Have a passing score on a content certification exam administered by a TEA vendor. (TAC 227.10.4D)
  • Meet English language proficiency skills. (TAC 227.10.7) (TAC 230.11)
  • Must submit an application. (TAC 227.10.8)
  • Must complete an interview to determine knowledge, experience, skills and aptitude (TAC 227.10.9)
  • Adhere to the Educator Code of Ethics (TAC 228) (TAC 247.2)
  • A student wishing to transfer to TTU must be considered in good standing in order to be considered for admission. (TAC 247.2)

Persons considering application should be aware that candidates must undergo a criminal history background check prior to employment as an educator and prior to clinical teaching. Persons who have been convicted of an offense are potentially ineligible for admission. Each applicant has a right to request a preliminary criminal history evaluation letter.

3. Register For and Pass TExES Exam

Prior to program application, you must pass the TExES exam for the appropriate content/grade level of your desired certificate. Strong Teachers Day One admits only candidates who want to teach at the middle school or secondary school level.
You will take the exam prior to admission, so you will register as PACT (Pre Admission Content Test). Please see this document for information on how to register.

4. Program Application & Fee

5. Program Admission

If you are approved for the program, you will meet with the certification advisor to review program requirements and sign documents accepting admission to the program.

You are on your way to becoming part of Strong Teachers Day One!

Site Coordinators, along with your mentor teacher, will provide the setting, the support, and the expertise to ensure that you are a Strong Teacher on Day 1.
