Asbestos Awareness
Asbestos is a generic term for a group of minerals which share fiber forming, flame resistant, and indestructible qualities. The word asbestos is derived from a Greek word meaning unquenchable or indestructible.

Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure Control
This online training course is designed specifically for Texas Tech personnel working around human or primate blood, body fluids, tissues, and human cell lines. It satisfies the OSHA bloodborne pathogen training requirements [29 CFR 1910.1030].

Lab Safety
This online training course is recommended for all personnel working within research and teaching laboratories at Texas Tech. This class covers the Chemical Hygiene Plan, exposure limits, health hazards, signs and symptoms associated with chemical exposures, material safety data sheets (MSDS), detection methods, PPE, protective clothing, safe work practices and emergency procedures. This class satisfies the requirements of the OSHA Laboratory Safety Standard [29 CFR 1910.1450].

Radiation Safety
 All personnel that needs to enter a restricted area as a Radiation Use Laboratory to conduct their work or studies, or an individual that will be directly involved in the use or radioactive materials and/or radiation producing devices are required to receive proper Radiation Safety Training administered through the Department of Environmental Health and Safety. The training consists of completing the Phase I online training with a grade of 80% or higher on the final exam, and then contacting Environmental Health and Safety (742-3876) to register for the Phase II lecture aspect of the course that is given on the first Tuesday of each month. At the successful completion of Phase II the student will be eligible to be added to the Sublicense Permit of the particular laboratory for entry.

Laser Safety
All personnel that needs to enter a restricted area as a Laser Laboratory to conduct their work or studies, or an individual that will be directly involved in the use of a laser for their research are required to receive proper Laser Safety Training administered through the Department of Environmental Health and Safety. The training consists of completing the online training with a grade of 80% or higher.  At the successful completion of the Laser Safety Training course the student will be eligible to be added to the Laser Sublicense Permit of the particular laboratory for entry.

Radiation Refresher
This course is designed for individuals working in a radiological material laboratory that has not taken radiation safety training in the past three years. In addition to fulfilling a necessary regulatory requirement, this course will update the radiation worker with needed information concerning any recent changes in radiation policy and procedures and inform the individual of any issues or trends that have occurred in the radioisotope use laboratories. The training consists of completing the online training with a grade of 80% or higher.  At the successful completion of the Safety Training course you will be able to print out a copy of the training certificate.

Safety Awareness
All new employees at Texas Tech will have to go through the online New Employee Safety Awareness Orientation training. The training consists of completing the online training with a grade of 80% or higher.  At the successful completion of the Safety Training course you will be able to print out a copy of the training certificate.

Biological Safety
All personnel who will be working in or who will have access to a Biological Safety Level 2 (BSL-2), Biological Safety Level 3 (BSL-3), or an Animal Biological Safety Level 2 (ABSL-2) laboratory must receive general training for working in these biosafety level laboratory facilities. This training is based on the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Guidelines for Biosafety in Microbiological and Biomedical Laboratories (BMBL). This training covers:
  Bloodborne Pathogens
  Biomedical Waste
  General biological safety issues associated with these biosafety level laboratory facilities
  Different general practices and procedures necessary to prevent a potential exposure to the infectious agents being used in these biosafety      level laboratories
  Information regarding the appropriate disposal of biohazardous waste generated in these biosafety level laboratories

The training consists of completing the online training with a grade of 80% or higher.  At the successful completion of the Safety Training course you will be able to print out a copy of the training certificate.
