Applied Behavior Analysis Graduate Certificate

Accepting New Students for Fall 2018 and Spring 2019

Texas Tech University's College of Education offers an online Applied Behavior Analysis Graduate Certificate that is designed to meet the BCBA® programmatic requirements. The coursework is available as a stand-alone certificate or as an area of emphasis with an online Master of Education in Special Education.

Program Overview for Students beginning Summer 2013 or Later

{Beginning Summer 2013, the ABA Graduate Certificate will require completion of 6 courses (18 credit hours).}

  • 18 credit hours
  • Coursework completed online
  • Prerequisite: Bachelor's degree
  • Completion time is approximately one year. Students must complete EDSP 5303 before taking additional courses in the sequence. No more than two courses in the sequence may be taken simultaneously.
  • Once admitted, students will be assigned a cohort for completing the course sequence.

Application Process

Although there is no application deadline, potential students are encouraged to submit all application materials at least two months prior to projected initial enrollment.

  1. Complete the Graduate Admissions application.
    • $60 initial application fee or $50 for each subsequent application (including changes of entry date, add/change program requests, or readmission requests).
    • Applicants must have unofficial transcripts from all colleges and universities previously attended sent to Texas Tech University Graduate School at graduate.admissions@ttu.edu. If you are admitted, you will then be required to submit official transcripts.
    • All international applicants must provide proof of English proficiency before their applications can be considered for admission. A list of acceptable exams can be found on the Graduate School International Prospective Student webpage. This test is waived only for graduates of U.S. universities or universities in English proficiency-exempt countries. Applicants who have completed at least two consecutive years at a college or university in the U.S. or in an English proficiency-exempt country, are also exempt from the English proficiency requirement.
  2. Check the Applications tab in your Raiderlink for notification of a change in your admissions status.
    • Upon your acceptance into the Graduate School and the College of Education, you will work with a faculty advisor to develop a degree plan. If you receive a letter of rejection, you may contact the Associate Dean of Graduate Education and Research, 806.742.1998, ext. 436, for advisement regarding the admissions appeals process.

Interested in taking only one or two courses? Use Texas Tech University's Graduate Temporary Status to apply and take as many as 12 credit hours without completing the application process to a degree program.

Certificate programs can be pursued independently or concurrently with a master's program. All coursework is offered online.

EDSP 5346 ABA III: Functional Behavior Assessment
EDSP 5347 ABA IV: Behavior Change Procedures
EDSP 5348 ABA V: Advanced Issues in ABA
EDSP 5349 ABA VI: Ethics and Professional Conduct

EDSP 5303 and 5345 are prerequisites for EDSP 5346. EDSP 5347 and 5348 are taken concurrently, after EDSP 5303, 5345 and 5346 are successfully completed.

For a Master of Education in Special Education, emphasis in Applied Behavior Analysis, 18 additional credit hours of coursework and a comprehensive evaluation or thesis will be required.

Completion of the national Board Certified Behavior Analysis Credential (BCBA®) involves completion of additional requirements (i.e., acceptable master's degree, 1500 hours of supervised experience, successful completion of a boast examination).
