New Accessibility Website Launched

By Kirsten Morris, Graduate Assistant

Texas Tech University eLearning & Academic Partnerships has launched a new website devoted to online accessibility. The website aids faculty, students and staff who want to make TTU a more inclusive environment. Below is a brief summary of what you will find on the site:

  • eLearning Accessibility Services provides three important services for faculty and staff at Texas Tech. Access to and information about these services can be found on the new site.
    • Captioning Services: Free video captioning is provided for all faculty and staff through our office. The Captioning Request Form on this page will allow you to initiate the process of getting captions for your online, hybrid or in-person videos.
    • Accessibility Evaluations: We will evaluate any online materials for accessibility using a screen reader and other assistive technology. We will then provide any guidance and training needed to improve the quality of those materials. Request an accessibility evaluation today.
    • Accessibility Training: We are happy to provide training for individuals, classes, departments or other groups around campus. We will tailor our presentation to your needs. Schedule an accessibility training today by emailing us at elearning.oa@ttu.edu.
  • Creating Accessible Materials: This portion of the site provides step-by-step guidance and information for improving materials such as Word documents, PDFs and online courses for accessibility. See the full list of accessibility topics covered here. For anyone just getting introduced to online accessibility, a great place to begin is on the Accessibility Basics page where you can learn a few quick tips that will instantly improve the accessibility of your online materials.
  • Blackboard Ally Support: The new website also has several pages devoted to the new accessibility support program coming soon to TTU called Blackboard Ally. There is a page specifically about Ally support for faculty, and another providing Ally support for students. Instructors are encouraged to direct students to this page with any questions they may have about the new service.

We are so excited to share this great new resource with everyone at Texas Tech. We encourage you to help spread the word about the new website so that Texas Tech can continue to offer excellent quality education and services to our entire community. Guns Up!
