From Dr. Louder
Dr. Justin Louder
Recently, faculty and staff at TTU received a memo from the Office of the Provost discussing the importance of captioning all media used in instruction to comply with federal regulations. Many people have asked why they need to caption materials even if they don't have a student that has requested the accommodations. 3play Media, a third party vendor that we have used for captioning services, outlines eight benefits of transcribing and captioning videos. As you can see from the linked video and corresponding website, captioning is beneficial to all students, not just those that may need or require the accommodations.
The staff at TTU Worldwide eLearning collaborates with faculty to be sure that your content meets accessibility guidelines. We're creating new professional development classes to help faculty think about accessible course design and we will be adding new tools and tips to the accessibility website in the next few weeks. We want to work with you. Please reach out to our office and let us be your partner as you develop and update your online classes.
