  • Texas Tech University’s Research Enhancement Fund: $1,000 awarded May 1993 to participate as an Institute Affiliate at the Linguistic Society of America’s 1993 Summer Linguistic Institute at Ohio State University.  Author and PI.
  • Department of English Faculty Research Support Competition: $500 awarded April 1988 for travel to Houghton Library (Harvard University) and Essex Institute (Salem, MA) for research.  Author and PI.
  • Witter Bynner Foundation for Poetry: $4,447 awarded May 1987 for neurolinguistic research project entitled “The Effects of Poetry on the Brain: An Interdisciplinary Study Involving Literature, Medicine, and Technology.”  Author and PI.
  • Texas Tech University New Faculty Grant: $2,000 awarded January 1987 to participate as a Visiting Scholar in the Linguistic Society of America’s 1987 Summer Linguistic Institute at Stanford University.  Author and PI.
