Ketchum Dallas' Summer Fellows work hand in hand with practices to learn the business, serve clients, and develop PR skills. Project:  Technical Writing in area of Semiconductor Facility

Work with X-FAB Texas engineers and technicians in Facility group to capture write up, document technical procedures and maintenance procedures from individuals that are the sole source of this knowledge.  Give presentations and publish progress reports. Work schedule will be flexible with 15-20 hours per week.

CGG - Technical Writer

his role will give you the opportunity to work with world-class geophysicists and researchers in publishing technical manuscripts, abstracts, and articles. The Technical Writer will need to assist technical staff with organizing material, and then complete writing assignments with clarity and brevity, and using correct terminology. Write and edit complex technical material. Most assignments will involve reviewing and proofreading pre-written works.

In addition to technical work, some creative journalism for intra-company communications may be required. Participate in and document employee appreciation events in order to memorialize events with fun and timely communications.

The Technical Writer contract position is on an as needed basis.  There will be peak times throughout the year that will require full time dedication to the assigned tasks and projects.  Alternatively,  during non-peak times work will be limited.

The Technical Writing Specialist will work as part of a technical writing team in the Documentation department developing hardcopy manuals and online reference materials for software products offered by The Reynolds and Reynolds Company and its affiliates.

You will conduct product testing before documenting new changes and have the opportunity to suggest improvements to existing Reynolds and Reynolds software. You will contribute topics for monthly publications covering new features released to customers and you will have contact with some customers to gather information when a request has been made for a product or service we do not currently offer. You will also be in charge of keeping help messages up to date within the software for the customers to use. You will write the instructions within the help messages and test the instructions to verify the results are correct.

Monthly salary: $2,834 - $4,064+ depending on qualifications

Purpose: Prepare and present technical documentation of software processes, training materials and operational and test procedures for high frequency active sonar systems deployed on United States Navy submarines and ships.

Essential Functions: Document sonar software algorithms and operator visual display components. Coordinate with laboratory researchers to develop and maintain detailed software processing descriptions, requirement specifications, interface descriptions, system engineering rationales, system integration notes, operating procedures and other related documents. Coordinate with laboratory researchers to develop and document in-lab and at-sea testing procedures. Prepare written reports and Powerpoint slides of test event details and results. Participate in the testing and verification of sonar components as needed. Maintain and improve on-line technical manuals and troubleshooting materials to support at-sea operation. Coordinate with laboratory researchers to update HTML-based trouble shooting guides in support of new software versions and capabilities. Develop sonar training curriculum and materials in conjunction with Navy fleet sonar operators, trainers and consultants and with laboratory researchers. Participate in training material development programs in support of Navy training needs. Participate in training session with Navy fleet sonar operations. Present training materials to further the understanding of sonar operation, software version differences, improved functionality, and related training elements.

Required qualifications: Bachelor's degree. Demonstrated ability to write software process documentation. Demonstrated abilities to express and present key technical principles to an engineering audience. Strong organizational skills and focus. Strong analytical and problem solving capability.
