Arts and Sciences General Degree Requirements-American History

The requirement states:

"AMERICAN HISTORY: Under state law all students who receive bachelor's degrees from Texas Tech University must complete 6 hours in American History. Students will normally fulfill this requirement by completing HIST 2300 and 2301. The requirement may also be satisfied by juniors and seniors completing six hours from the following list:" Then follows a list of courses which may be viewed on the most recent Arts & Sciences General Degree Requirements sheet.

NOTE: The course subject abbreviations (course prefixes) are explained in the Reader's Guide to the catalog. (Instead of clicking on the picture of the catalog choose the link in red on the left that says "Course Descriptions". The abbreviations are decoded in the column on the right.)

"Underlined courses are cross-listed: Cannot receive credit for both courses."

BA/BGS: 6 hour required.

Although students normally take HIST 2300 and 2301, certainly not all do. Students who need more junior/senior hours (3000 and 4000 level classes) may want to choose one or both courses from the list of acceptable 3000-level History courses listed on the document. Also the upper level courses are focused on topics and may, therefore, be more interesting to students who have had good high school preparation in U.S. History.
