This layer contains the boundary of ice shelves located around Anarctica. This polygon file is intended for large scale thematic mapping and analysis.
The spatial data were obtained from the Natural Earth website. The data originated from the 2003-2004 Mosaic of Antarctica.* The data are suitable for making relatively detailed maps of countries and regions and are intended for use at a scale no larger than 1:10,000,000. Attributes were modified to include recnum ID, type, and name. The coordinate system of this data is WGS 1984.
*Reflects recent ice shelf collapses digitized from satellite images. Does not include seasonal (winter) ice which extends much farther around the Antarctic continent.
