Summary 

This layer contains physical regions around the world. This polygon file is intended for muli-scale thematic mapping and analysis.

Description 

            

              

                

                  

                    The spatial data were obtained from Natural Earth. The points of interest were primarily derived from Patterson's 
                    Physical Map of the World
                    . Attributes were modified to include scalerank, type, name, region, and subregion. The coordinate system of this data is WGS 1984.
                  

                  

                    "The boundaries of physical regions should be taken with a grain of salt. They are roughly accurate to 50m scale, although the number of features included is to the 10m scale." - Natural Earth
