Check this website for regular updates to the 3305 lecture and lab. Prelabs will be uploaded here. Be sure to read the prelab before lab meetings.

29 August.

2 September

  • Prelab 2: Geologic Maps Download for T (6 Sept.) and TH (8 Sept.) labs

7 September

  • pdf of lecture material from 7 September.
  • Additional animations to help visualize geologic map patterns. Each of these .zip files contains Quicktime movies and topographic maps (.gif files) of the features shown in the QT movies. Compare the 2D topographic map with the 3D QT files to help visuallize how horizontal, inclined, and vertical planes produce various outcrop patterns on a surface with variable topography.

9 September

14 September

  • Notes from today's lecture on stress. Page 1, 2, 3, 4

20 September

Here are some old lecture notes that I prepared 'back in the day', when I was OCD about it... It's a .zip file with 4 or 5 .pdf files included. BUNDLE OF STRESS for YOU! (.zip file) Check out the notes on "Pore fluid pressure and Mohr Circles/Failure envelopes". The other lectures provide some background on what we've covered and what we will cover in the next few weeks, etc.

Chapters 4 and 5 in you text book by Fossen provide additional background on Stress in structural geology.

There is no "Prelab" for this week. However, be sure that you bring a calculator with trig functions, ruler, pencils, graph paper and engineering paper.

26 September

Here are three figures from last wednesdays lecture.

Fig. 1, Fig. 2, Fig. 3.

REMEMBER, NO LAB THIS WEEK! (26 Sept.)

28 September

Here are figures from today and Monday's lecture... Click HERE and HERE! (power point file)

3 October

Here is a ppt file with the figures from today's lecture.

Here is the ppt file of the geo-history of west Texas. (57 MB file)

And, here's what you need for the final:

1) the usual orange scantron
2) pencils (graphite & color)
3) trig calculator
4) tracing paper
5) engineering compass
