Program Description

The onsite Ph.D. in Higher Education is taught primarily face to face on the campus of Texas Tech University although some course work may be completed online. Courses are typically offered in the evenings and some weekends. The onsite program offers admission for the fall, spring and summer terms. The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Higher Education - Higher Education Research is designed for full-time students wanting to contribute to the knowledge base of teaching, education, and leadership by acquiring a thorough grounding in the conduct of research. This program prepares students for careers as institutional researchers and planners administrators with an orientation towards research, sponsored programs, or grants program assessment and evaluation specialists research associates and faculty members in colleges or universities. It requires 96 semester hours beyond the baccalaureate degree. The program consists of 66 credit hours above the Masters degree. Qualified applicants should have full-time professional experience in either a public or private two-year or four-year higher education institution or state or federal educational agency serving higher education. Applicants must show a clear connection to higher education. Professional experience is defined as holding a mid-level administrator position (minimum level of coordinator or specialist) or higher in an institution or agency of higher education. Adjunct teaching and work as a student while seeking a degree does not constitute professional, full-time experience. Full-time faculty positions do constitute professional experience.

How To Apply

2) Pay your application fee: $60 initial application fee, $50 for each subsequent application (including changes of entry date, add/change program, or readmission). Application fees may be paid via ApplyTexas at the time of application submission or by credit card on our website.

3) Contact the Graduate Program Coordinator in your prospective department. Many departments have separate application requirements and deadlines, and the Graduate Program Coordinator will be able to assist you in your application process.
