Doctor of Philosophy in Family and Consumer Sciences Education


Program Description

The Mission of the Family and Consumer Sciences Education program is to prepare individuals for professional positions in secondary schools, colleges and universities, extension education, and related areas through quality teaching, research, and service. The Ph.D. degree program is designed to prepare individuals for faculty positions in higher education and other professional leadership roles. A minimum of 53 semester credit hours is required beyond the masters degree, exclusive for dissertation. The program includes an 18-hr. specialization in FCSE, a 15-hr. research component, an emphasis planned to meet individual career goals, and a dissertation based on original research.

How To Apply


1) Apply to Graduate School : Fill out the online application at Apply Texas.

2) Pay your application fee: $60 initial application fee, $50 for each subsequent application (including changes of entry date, add/change program, or readmission). Application fees may be paid via ApplyTexas at the time of application submission or by credit card on our website.

3) Contact the Graduate Program Coordinator in your prospective department. Many departments have separate application requirements and deadlines, and the Graduate Program Coordinator will be able to assist you in your application process.

4) Send application requirements, from all of the colleges and universities that you have attended to Texas Tech University Graduate School.
