This update resolves a newly-discovered, privately-reported vulnerability.

A denial of service vulnerability exists that could allow an attacker to send a specially crafted IGMP packet to an affected system. An attacker could cause the affected system to stop responding.

Microsoft recommends that customers should update at the earliest opportunity.

Affected Software:

• Windows XP SP1 / XP SP2
• Windows XP Professional x64 Edition
• Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2003 SP1
• Windows Server 2003 for Itanium-based Systems
• Windows Server 2003 x64 Edition
   
• Note: The security updates for Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 SP1, and Windows Server 2003 x64 Edition also apply to Windows Server 2003 R2.

Non-Affected Software:

• Windows 2000 SP4
• Windows 98, 98 SE, and ME

Quick Fix Instructions

1. Download the patches appropriate for your system below.
2. Save the file to a convenient location, such as your download folder or the Windows desktop.
3. Close all programs before you run the tool.
4. Double-click the file to start the update tool.
5. Follow the On-Screen Instructions
