Microsoft:

If you manage your own computer you should install all Microsoft updates as soon as they become available.  These updates address various bugs and security problems found in the Microsoft Operating System. Without these, your computer is susceptible to attack by viruses and hackers. These patches also fix bugs in Microsoft programs that can cause instability or undesired results on your computer.

Macintosh:

Although less frequent, there are occasional flaws in the Macintosh operating system that you should be aware of. Below is a list of current vulnerabilities that are associated with the Macintosh operating system.
