The instructions below are for configuring Windows Vista to connect to TTU's Wireless Network.

It is VERY important that users install current service packs and critical updates prior to configuring your wireless connection (Microsoft Windows Update).

  1. Verify that you have installed all current service packs and critical updates prior to configuring your wireless connection.
     
  2. Confirm the latest driver for your wireless NIC is installed.

    Due to compatibility issues with untested wireless cards and operating systems, IT Help Central cannot guarantee every device or card will be able to gain access to the wireless network; therefore, support is not assured for non-tested hardware and operating systems.
     

  3. Verify that there is an Access Point in your building.
     
  4. Verify that the user has a wireless card in their desktop and/or laptop, and follow these steps:

Note: If you are using the Intel PROSet utility on Windows Vista, please update your drivers:


Windows Vista Wireless Configuration:

  1. Click Start -> Network.


     
  2. Click "Network and Sharing Center" button at the top of the window.


     
  3. Click "Manage wireless networks."


     
  4. Click "Add."


     
  5. Click "Manually create a network profile."


     
  6. Enter the following, then click "Next."
    1. Network name: TTUnet
    2. Security type: 802.1x
    3. Encryption type: WEP
    4. Check "Start this connection automatically."


     

  7. After "TTUnet" is added, Click "Change connection settings."


     
  8. In the "Connections" tab, Ensure that this box is checked:
    1. "Connect automatically when this network is in range"


       
  9. Click the "Security" tab. Then verify these settings:
    1. Security type: 802.1x
    2. Encryption type: WEP
    3. Network authentication method: Protected EAP (PEAP)
    4. Keep "Cache user information for subsequent connections to this network" checked.
    5. Click "Settings."


       
  10. Verify these settings:
    1. Uncheck "Validate server certificate."
    2. Select Authentication Method: Secured password (EAP-MSCHAP v2).
    3. Uncheck "Enable Fast Reconnect."
    4. Click "Configure."


       
  11. Uncheck "Automatically use my Windows logon name and password (and domain if any)." Click "OK" on all open boxes.


     
  12. Click the bubble that says, " Additional information is required to connect to TTUnet. Click to provide additional information and connect."


     
  13. The "Enter Credentials" box will pop up, enter the following:
    1. User name: Your eRaider Username
    2. Password: Your eRaider Password
    3. Logon domain: TTU
