Connecting to the TTU Net Wireless Network
The instructions that follow are for users of Windows XP Service Pack 2. This was tested with the Dell TrueMobile 1150 PCMCIA card but should work with any other 802.1x compatible wireless card under Windows XP. The steps to configure other wireless cards will be slightly different but will contain the same settings.
Note: The Linksys Wireless Configuration Utility does NOT work with Windows XP. You should un-install the Linksys Wireless Configuration utility and use Windows XP's built in wireless configuration utility.
It is VERY important that users install current service packs and critical updates prior to configuring your wireless connection (Microsoft Windows Update). You should also download and install the latest drivers for your wireless NIC.
- Verify that you have installed all current service packs and critical updates prior to configuring your wireless connection.
- Confirm the latest driver for your wireless NIC is installed.
- Verify that there is an Access Point in your building.
- Verify that the user has a wireless card in their desktop and/or laptop, and follow these steps:
1. Go to the control panel and double click Network Connections.

2. You will now see the following screen.

- If the wireless card is properly installed, then you will see the Wireless Network Connection icon, if not then the wireless adapter is not being properly detected. Re-install adapter and driver.
- Right click the Wireless Network Connection icon and select properties.
3. On the Wireless Network Connection Properties window select the Wireless Networks tab.
- Make sure the Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings is checked.
- If TTUnet is listed in the Preferred networks section, skip to step 7.
- If TTUnet is not listed, click the View Wireless Networks button to create the initial connection to TTUnet.
4. You should now see the Wireless Network Connection window. Click on the TTUnet network and then click Connect in the bottom right hand corner.
5. Windows will now try and connect to TTUnet for the first time.
6. You will now see the Wireless Network Connection window with no wireless networks listed. Click on the Change advanced settings button on the left hand side of the screen to configure the TTUnet wireless network.
7. In the Preferred networks section, select TTUnet (Automatic) and then click on the Properties button.
8. You should now see the TTUnet properties window. In the Network Authentication box, select Open and in the Data encryption box, select WEP. Also, make sure and check the The key is provided for me automatically box. Now select the Authentication tab.
9. The Enable IEEE 802.1x authentication for this network box should be checked. Set the EAP type to Protected EAP (PEAP). Authenticate as computer when computer information is available and Authenticate as guest when user or computer information is unavailable should NOT be checked. Now click the Properties button on the middle right hand side of window.
10. Now, verify that Validate server certificate is UNCHECKED and that Select Authentication Method should be set to Secured password (EAP-MSCHAP v2). Also, Enable Fast Reconnect should be UNCHECKED. Now click the Configure button in lower right corner.
11. Make sure that the box nest to Automatically use my Windows logon name and password (and domain if any) is UNCHECKED. You will now need to click ok to all the proceeding windows.
12. You will now see this bubble come up from your system tray (the area next to the time display on the task bar). Click inside the bubble to open the login window.
13. You will now be prompted to enter your e-Raider user name, e-Raider password, and Logon Domain (TTU) for the Network Connection. Click OK at the bottom, and after it authenticates you will be on the wireless network.

NOTICE:
The next time you start your pc/laptop you will not be prompted for your e-Raider user name and password. The connection will not be instantaneous, it takes a couple of minutes to associate with the access point and authenticate the user information.
