Junction
is a town of 2600 persons; it is the county seat of Kimble County,
population 4100. The economy is agriculture based, with ranching
and hunting being the primary source of income. The county is in
the geologic region of Texas known as the Edwards Plateau. Eroded
limestone hills are cut through by streams, which feed the two major
rivers of the area, the North and South Llano Rivers. The town site
is at the "junction" of these two rivers. Kimble County has over 300 miles of flowing streams, more
than any other county in Texas. The water comes from springs which
are prevalent throughout the area. |
| The
climate is moderate in this semi-arid county. Average annual temperature
is 64.7°. Rainfall averages 22 inches yearly. Because of the location on interstate highway 10 and the fact that it is the county seat, the town provides for a variety of goods and services. Kimble Hospital, emergency medical service and a staff of physicians, other medical professionals including dentists, serve the community. |
