About Dr. Barr:

In recent years Alwyn Barr has published the Introduction in Black Cowboys of Texas (Texas A&M University Press, 2000), as well as African Texans (Texas A&M University Press 2004) and four articles or book chapters.  A new edition of one of his earlier books was published:  Reconstruction to Reform:  Texas Politics, 1876-1906 (Southern Methodist University Press, 2000).  Seven doctoral students completed dissertations under his direction since 2000, bringing the total he has directed to thirty, with eight of the dissertations revised and published as books.  He has served as a consultant for several government agencies and institutions including the National Parks Service and “Texas Ranch House,” a documentary that appeared on public television.  In 2001 he received the Outstanding Researcher Award in the College of Arts and Sciences at Texas Tech, followed in 2005 by the Faculty Distinguished Leadership Award from the Texas Tech Association of Parents.
