Newly Admitted Students
So, you have filled out the Honors College application and have received your acceptance letter from the Honors College Dean, Dr. Gary Bell. Congratulations! But, what now? If you are an incoming freshmen or a transfer student coming from another college or university, below is all of the information you need to know. If you were accepted to Honors as a current TTU student, contact an Honors Advisor*.
Honors College Contract and Handbook
With your acceptance letter, you also received a contract of acceptance to join the Honors College. As soon as you have made your decision to attend Texas Tech and join the Honors College, you must sign and send the contract to our office.
As one of the terms of the contract, you as an incoming student must read and agree to the Honors College Student Handbook. Please click here to be linked the handbook. If you have any questions about the contract, email Brittney Gabriel *. For questions about the handbook, contact an Honors Advisor *.
Please note that you are not required to be a Natural History and Humanities or an Honors Arts and Letters major to join the Honors College. We have students from all different majors in the college. If you selected one of these majors when you applied to Texas Tech University through the Texas Common Application and do not actually plan to major in them, please email majorchange@ttu.edu and provide them with your current major, your new major and your Tech ID number.
University Student Housing
As a member of the Honors College, you are eligible to live in Gordon Hall, the Honors College Learning Community on Texas Tech campus. Spaces in Gordon Hall are limited and fill quickly every year on a first-come, first-served basis. If you do not get into Gordon Hall, there are many other residence halls on campus available, many with other important learning communities, such as Business, Engineering and Music.
We encourage all of our admitted students to apply for housing as soon as possible. Visit Housing’s website.
Red Raider Orientation
The next step for students committed to attending Texas Tech is to sign up for Red Raider Orientation. Orientation begins in early June and runs throughout the summer. At orientation, you will be exposed to many of the great traditions and services available at Texas Tech and will also register for your fall courses, including your required Honors First-Year Experience (FYE) course.
We encourage our Honors students to register for the earliest orientation dates available as soon as possible so that they will have the best options with their fall classes. Visit Red Raider Orientation’s website to register. Then, click here for information on what you will do as an Honors student during Red Raider Orientation.
