Seeking
Applicants for 2007-2008 Honors College Ambassadors
Who are
Ambassadors and what do they do?
Honors Ambassadors
are often the first face of the Honors College and serve
a vital role in recruiting new Honors students at Texas
Tech. Some of the things they do include
-
Meeting
prospective students when they visit the Texas Tech
campus.
-
Attending
recruiting events such as University Day and College
Night to talk to prospective students about the
benefits and requirements of Honors students and
what its like to be an Honors student.
Students who are
eligible to apply must be in good standing with the
Honors College and enthusiastic about the Honors College
and Texas Tech.
Potential
Ambassadors should also be available to work at least
two regularly scheduled office hours per week in
addition to helping with special recruiting events.
Applications can
be found on the Honors website at
http://www.depts.ttu.edu/honors/ambassadors.html
and are due by 5:00 P.M. on Friday, April 13, in
the Honors College, McClellan Hall, Room 103.
If you would like
additional information, please contact Laura Sparrow via
e-mail at
laura.sparrow@ttu.edu.

Final Week to
Apply for Undergraduate Research Fellowship Positions
Applications for
the 2007-2008 Undergraduate Research Fellowship (URF)
Program are due this coming Monday, April 16th, by 5
p.m. Applications should be submitted in Room 103 of
McClellan Hall. More information about the URF program,
and the application, are available on the following
webpage:
http://www.depts.ttu.edu/honors/urf/info.html
To apply for a URF
position, you and your prospective faculty mentor
jointly complete the application. The link below will
take you to a database of professors interested in an
undergraduate research fellow for the 2007-08 school
year. If you find a particular professor’s research
interesting, contact that professor using the contact
information he/she has provided on the database. Also,
each department at TTU has a listing of faculty on its
website, and most of these departmental listings provide
the professors’ research interests.
http://www.depts.ttu.edu/honors/urf/mentor_info_results.htm
If you would like
to post your contact information, you can do so at this
webpage:
http://www.depts.ttu.edu/honors/urf/student_info_form.htm
Professors who
contact me with interest in finding a research fellow
will be given access to this database of information.
URF positions are
competitive, and not all applicants will receive a
position. Students from any department can apply for a
position, and the research need not be in the area of
your major(s). For questions, contact Joel Walker, URF
Coordinator, at 742-1828 or
joel.r.walker@ttu.edu.

Current Events Discussion, Friday, April 13,
2007, Noon, Honors Forum
I hope you
all had a
great
weekend and
managed to
get some
rest. The
discussion
topic for
this Friday,
the 13th,
(ooohhh
scary) will
be a repeat
of last
week’s
topic:
“In your
opinion,
what
international
issue
receives far
too little
attention in
American
media and
American
public
discussion?”
Please come
prepared to
share what
issue that
is for you.
For those of
you not in
attendance
this past
Friday,
we’re
repeating
the topic
this week
because we
never got
around to
discussing
the topic
last week.
We had some
great
discussion
on Texas
Tech related
issues
instead.
Dr. Jim
Clopton,
Professor of
Psychology
at TTU, will
be the
facilitator
this week.
He has
provided the
following
links
related to
the topic.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/africa/3496731.stm
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/04/07/world/asia/07korea.html?_r=1&oref=slogin
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/04/07/opinion/07akram.html?
As usual,
we’ll meet
from 12-1
p.m. in the
student
forum of
McClellan
Hall. Food
and drinks
will be
provided by
the Honors
College.
Hope you can
make it!

Texas Tech
Student Research Day Presentation of Research, Friday,
April 13
The Honors College
URF program invites all students, staff, and faculty to
come and watch undergraduates present their research at
Texas Tech Student Research Days this Friday, April 13th.
From 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., students will conduct Power Point
and paper presentations in the Lubbock Room of the SUB.
A new presentation begins each half-hour.
From 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., students will be presenting
their research through poster presentations in the
Ballroom of the SUB. Presentations will be every
half-hour.
If you are
traveling to GPHC to present your research in a few
weeks, this would be a great opportunity to preview what
you will be doing in Oklahoma City. If you are
considering applying to the URF program in the future,
or you are considering the possibility of being a
researcher or professor someday, this would also be a
valuable learning experience for you.
