Are you a Pre-Law student and a member of the Honors
College? Or are you simply considering law school and
want to find out more?
The Honors College would
like to identify our students interested in attending
law school upon completing undergraduate course work.
Thanks to some ongoing efforts in partnering with the
Texas Tech University School of Law and the Arts &
Sciences pre-law advising, the Honors College is
planning to offer some unique opportunities for our
pre-law students. Michael Harrington, Honors academic
advisor, is working on compiling a list of our pre-law
students and needs your information. If you would like
to be on this list please fill out this short form and
email it to
michael.harrington@ttu.edu
or bring it to the front desk of the Honors College.
Thanks!
Here's the form to
fill out and turn in to Michael Harrington:

Seeking
Applicants for 2007-2008 Honors College Ambassadors
Who are
Ambassadors and what do they do?
Honors Ambassadors
are often the first face of the Honors College and serve
a vital role in recruiting new Honors students at Texas
Tech. Some of the things they do include
-
Meeting
prospective students when they visit the Texas Tech
campus.
-
Attending
recruiting events such as University Day and College
Night to talk to prospective students about the
benefits and requirements of Honors students and
what its like to be an Honors student.
Students who are
eligible to apply must be in good standing with the
Honors College and enthusiastic about the Honors College
and Texas Tech.
Potential
Ambassadors should also be available to work at least
two regularly scheduled office hours per week in
addition to helping with special recruiting events.
Applications can
be found on the Honors website at
http://www.depts.ttu.edu/honors/ambassadors.html
and are due by 5:00 P.M. on Friday, April 13, in
the Honors College, McClellan Hall, Room 103.
If you would like
additional information, please contact Laura Sparrow via
e-mail at

Undergraduate Research Fellowship Positions
The application
for the 2007-2008 Undergraduate Research Fellowship (URF)
Program is now posted on the Honors College’s URF
website. More information about the URF program, and
the application, are available on the following webpage:
http://www.depts.ttu.edu/honors/urf/info.html
To apply for a URF
position, you and your prospective faculty mentor
jointly complete the application. The link below will
take you to a database of professors interested in an
undergraduate research fellow for the 2007-08 school
year. There are a handful of professors posted there
now; and more will add their information over the coming
weeks, so check back! If you find a particular
professor’s research interesting, contact that professor
using the contact information he/she has provided on the
database.
http://www.depts.ttu.edu/honors/urf/mentor_info_results.htm
If you would like
to post your contact information, you can do so
at this webpage:
http://www.depts.ttu.edu/honors/urf/student_info_form.htm
Professors who
contact me with interest in finding a research fellow
will be given access to this database of information.
URF positions are competitive, and
not all applicants will receive a position. Students
from any department can apply for a position, and the
research need not be in the area of your major(s).
The
deadline for applications is 5 p.m. on April 16th,
2007. Submit competed applications to Room 103 of
McClellan Hall. For questions, contact Joel Walker, URF
Coordinator, at 742-1828 or
joel.r.walker@ttu.edu.

A Tale of Two Jims
Once
upon a time there were two Jims who grew up
in Kansas. They didn’t know each other, but
had very similar stories as I discovered
upon interviewing each of these faculty
members this week. Both Jims earned their
undergraduate degrees in Kansas. They both
earned Ph.D.’s in their respective fields in
1974 and then they both moved to Lubbock,
Texas in 1976 to join the faculty at Texas
Tech (after they found out where Lubbock
was). Both Jims only intended to stay at
Lubbock and Texas Tech for a few years. 31
years later…they’re both still here and
Texas Tech is incredibly better because both
of these faculty members decided to stay!
Next week the Honors Voice will have
articles on each of these faculty members
who have contributed so much to Texas Tech
and especially to the Honors College. It’s
quite possible you’ve taken a class from one
of these two professors. Can you guess who
the two Jims might be? Look for their
stories soon and find out!
